Altoona & Eau Claire, WI-

As a chiropractor, I’m always looking for natural ways to do things.  I’m constantly searching and choosing to go against the “usual and customary” procedures and customs of our society.  In childbirth, I’ve found a great solution to people wanting to have a natural childbirth.  It’s called the Bradley Way of Natural Childbirth!

For those wanting a natural childbirth, one without the use of modern medicine unless absolutely needed, then I highly, highly, recommend the Bradley Way.  My wife and I are expecting our first child in February.  Yippee!  We are thrilled to enter into the adult reality and responsibility of parenthood.  Also, as a chiropractor and natural healthcare advocate, my wife and I have decided to pursue an all-natural childbirth.  We didn’t know where to turn, but after talking with another chiropractor and his wife who did the Bradley Way, then we felt confident to pursue that route.

What I love about the Bradley Way (also called Husband-Coached Childbirth) is that we have to attend classes to learn all about childbirth and all the components that go along with it.  We learn about EVERYTHING that will happen as we go into labor and proceed into delivery and postpartum care.  We are taking classes in St. Paul (the closest certified Bradley instructor in our area) every Sunday night for 10 weeks.  I cannot tell you how much we have learned!  It has been priceless information and we actually practice labor and delivery so we know how to perform when it comes to “game time”.  We’ve learned about nutrition, exercises to improve labor progress and decrease pain.

The reason it is also called Husband-Coached Childbirth is that as the husband, I play an important role in the labor and delivery process in a coach-like figure to my wife.  I’m an encourager, a suggester, and a praise-r!  It is a lot of fun!  We can’t wait until “D-Day” to put everything we’ve learned into action.

Did you know that only 5% of births are completely natural these days?  Most births are a “knock-em out, drag-em out” type birth in a hospital where drugs are used so frequently that people term it “natural” if they had an epidural, but didn’t use drugs to induce.  Wow, how our society has become a huge medical money-making magnet!  Do you know why the nurses and doctors use medications so often?  It is not just because the patient wants all of that.  It’s because it lets the mom go to lala land and makes the birth much more profitable for the hospital.  Vaginal epidural births cost anywhere from $6,000-10,000 and c-sections cost at least over $10,000.  A Natural Childbirth with no drugs or surgery, in a hospital, costs roughly $3,000 to $5,000 depending on your area and procedures routinely done.

My wife will not only be preparing for the birth with the instruction of the Bradley Way, she will also be receiving high-quality chiropractic care to help align her body in preparation for a healthy delivery and in-turn a healthy and vibrant baby! If you are pregnant and are wanting to learn more about chiropractic care during pregnancy, please contact us and we’ll help you have a healthy pregnancy!

I’ve covered only a little bit here on the Bradley Way, but you can learn more about the method at Bradley Birth Website.
